Yorkville PTO Begins Artist-in-Residence Program in 2011
PTO's goal is to implement enrichment programs for the students. Last year we were able to get Artist-in-Residence off and running. The idea is to have an area artist come in to the school and teach each year's third-grade class a new technique. One year might be sculpture, the next photography...you get the idea. The program ends with a project that the students work on together. Their creation is left on display in the school.
In May of 2011, Yorkville's third graders were the first class to take part in PTO's new Artist-in-Residence Program. Each student designed and glazed a 6 in by 6 in tile based on a sports theme. The project was led by Fired Up! Racine. Once the tiles were fired, they were arranged on a backerboard and framed by a talented Yorkville parent who donated his time and materials. The completed masterpiece now hangs in the school cafeteria for all to enjoy. Check it out next time you're at school. The kids did an awesome job!
